Cold wave hits normal life in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Nov 30 (IANS) A cold wave Monday continued to paralyse normal life in parts of Orissa, with temperature dipping as low as 8 degrees Celsius, an official said.

"The places where the lowest temperatures were recorded during early hours of Monday are mostly located in western part of the state," an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

The lowest minimum temperature recorded in Phulbani, Bolangir, Sundergarh and Sambalpur were 8, 9.8, 9.9, and 9.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

Most of the state's coastal regions remained warmer with state capital Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack and Balasore recording 13, 16.5, 14.3 and 13.7 degrees, the official said.

A large number of people were seen huddling around bonfires to keep themselves warm in the places with low temperatures.
