''The findings of the global tobacco survey indicate that Kerala has a high smoking rate of 20% which is more than the national average. Tobacco use silently and gradually kills 25000 to 40000 people in kerala every year according to Dr. K Thankappan Head of Achuthamenon centre for health science studies. GATJ was conducted as house hold survey covering persons who were 15 years and above by the international institute for population sciences under the co ordination by union ministry of health and family welfare.
