CBI summons ex-Gujarat police chief P.C. Pande
Gandhinagar, July 28(IANS) Former Gujarat director general of police P.C. Pande was Wednesday summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a staged shootout.

He has been told to appear before the CBI Aug 11, CBI sources said.

West Bengal announces surrender policy for Maoists
Kolkata, July 28 (IANS) The West Bengal government Wednesday announced a surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy for the Maoist guerrillas with immediate effect.

As per the package, based on guidelines formulated by the union home ministry, surrendering Maoists would get a monthly stipend of Rs.2,000 for a period of three years, while the state government would make a fixed deposit of Rs.1.5 lakh for three years for each.

Orissa examines textbook after protest by JMM
Bhubaneswar/Ranchi, July 28 (IANS) The Orissa government Wednesday said it is examining complaints over allegedly objectionable remark about the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in a state text book, a decision that followed protests by the party.

Bail cancelled for Aman Kachru ragging accused


Shimla, July 28 (IANS) The Himachal Pradesh High Court Wednesday cancelled bail to four students of a medical college for ragging to death first year student Aman Kachru last year.

Punjab Police arrest two in fake currency scam
Sangrur (Punjab), July 28 (IANS) An inter-state fake currency racket has been busted with the arrest of two people from Punjab's Sangrur town, police said Wednesday.

According to the police, fake currency with a face value of Rs.15 lakh was recovered late Tuesday from the accused, identified as Jasvir Singh alias "Jassi" and Akshay Gupta.

Exports from special economic zone zoomed 121 percent
New Delhi, July 28 (IANS) In sharp contrast to the slowdown in India's external trade last fiscal, exports from special economic zones (SEZs) grew by a whopping 121.4 percent, the commerce ministry said Wednesday.

Exports from SEZs during 2009-10 stood at Rs.2,20,711.39 crore ($49 billion). India's total exports during the same period was down 4.7 percent at $176.5 billion.

NDDB to invest Rs.17,000 crore to boost milk production
New Delhi, July 28 (IANS) The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is planning to invest Rs.17,000 crore as part of a 15-year national plan to usher in a second White Revolution to meet the growing demand for milk, which is expected to reach 180 million tonnes by 2021.
